PANORAMA - OUR REACTION

23-Jul-2010

“It Shouldn’t happen at a Vets’” PANORAMA 22/7/10

Our team were very upset by the footage and behaviour of some of our profession and as such wanted to state clearly the following……….

WE ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT ANIMALS AND THEIR CARE. We all have our own pets and will always care for your pets with the dignity, patience and respect they deserve. We will always do our jobs to the highest of our professional ability with your pets needs first.
·
WE ARE A FAMILY RUN LOCAL SURGERYWE ARE NOT A CORPORATE VETERINARY BUSINESS. We provide our own  “out of hours” service onsite with a member of staff on the premises at all times. We always have a veterinary surgeon and a qualified nurse on call.

WE WILL ALWAYS PROVIDE AN ITEMISED ESTIMATE and ITEMISED BILLING. There are no hidden costs and procedures and your options are always discussed in full.

ALL GENERAL ANAESTHETICS ARE ADMINISTERED BY A VET. All our protocols follow the highest standards possible to minimise stress and risk to our patients. We are very happy to talk you through what will happen to your pet each step of the way.

WE HAVE 2 FULLY QUALIFIED REGISTERED VETERINARY NURSES. They are supported by a team of student veterinary nurses and other lay assistants including a qualified groomer. We are a training centre but our students are well supervised. The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has very clear guidelines as to what students can and can't do and what level of supervision is required. We follow rhese guidelines and in addition would not let a student or anyone else allow an animal to suffer due to their lack of experience. All our staff wear name badges that clearly state their status.

All of us were very upset by the unprofessional and sometimes outright uncaring and dishonest cases shown on this program. If you wish to see “behind the scenes” at Welland Road or in Yarwell we will always be happy to show you around the practice provided that it does not put at risk you or any of the patients currently being treated. If this is the case then another appropriate time will always be arranged.

We love our jobs and thank you for the privilege we have to work with and care for your family pets. We understand the trust you place in us and we promise always to do our best to live up to this.
